Top 5 Jodie Foster Performances

Top 5 Jodie Foster Performances

Jodie Foster is one of those very selective actresses. She always seems to take a lot of time with her roles and choosing which ones to do. Unfortunately this is rather rare in Hollywood today. Not only is she selective, but she prepares for them and is willing to commit just about anything to her roles. In the fairly recent movie, Elysium, she was originally going to speak for the whole movie in French. In general movies with lots of subtitles, even a little, do not do as good at the box office in America. Even with that Jodie Foster was going to do it, although it ended up that the producers didn't think that was a very good idea so they shot that down. Anyway, Jodie Foster is one of the most talented and best actresses alive today, I figured she would be the perfect person to start the Top 5 performances lists.

#5. Panic Room (2002)
This movie initially was at best, alright in my mind. But after a viewing or two more, I started to enjoy it much more. It is an intense and thrilling movie that keeps me now on the edge of my seat when I watch it. Jodie Foster has a brilliant performance in it though, it is visible how much stress she is under before she has to get in the panic room, it is almost as if she actually just got a divorce and has a diabetic daughter. An amazing and entertaining performance definitely deserves an B+ rating.

#4. Nell (1994)
A rather odd performance I always thought, the weird mangled version of English she speaks is hard to get used to, but she does a very good job at making it perfect. She is supposed to speak in that odd version of english and does just that, she makes it sound how it was supposed to sound. I always thought basically no one else could play this role, as if it was written for her. A-

#3. The Accused (1988)
This film has always been troubling to watch, it isn't pleasant at all, but Jodie Foster brings out such a great performance, whenever she speaks she dominates the screen in this film.  Her first Oscar win was well deserved, A.

#2. Taxi Driver (1976)
So hard to choose between the top two, but Iris from Taxi Driver gets #2 spot on the list. The job she does in this movie is incredible, extremely challenging to do at her young age in the film. Jodie Foster plays a young prostitute that Robert De Niro's character is obsessed with. It truly is amazing what a spectacular job she could do even at that young age, it really shows and speaks for how well she can act and for how long she has been acting. Easy A+ job.

#1. The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Her best work to date, Silence of the Lambs follows Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster's character) hunting for serial killer Buffalo Bill, with the help of Dr. Hannibal Lecter. This is the first and only horror film to win a Best Picture Oscar, and one of 3 movies to win all the big 5 awards. Jodie Foster's performance never gets enough attention, it's always about Anthony Hopkins. Well his is great and all, but Jodie delivers her best performance and one of the best of all time. The scene at the end, yikes that is one of the most intense scenes ever put to film and she nails it, A+ for Clarice Starling.

So there are the top 5 Jodie Foster performances, if you think I missed one or think they should go in a different order let me know.
